Hi, I have tried cutting my furbabies nails before. That was the first and the last time my furbabies actually let me handle their nails. I miscue and actually cut too much into the vein. My furbabies gave off a cry and the paw starts to bleed. The starangest thing is after I clean up the wound, I saw that the flesh actually literally growing out from the paw. How amazing.

same experience with me jeff.... so guess wat ... now i dun cut at all haha actually if u walk ur dog alot... dun really need to cut cos the walking will file down the nails and in fact make it less sharp...
but i think it really depends on ur breed..... anyways if i need a nail cut i will just ask the groomer nearby to help... free! hehe

Hi, We used to send Jubilee once a mth $8 to cut her nails cos' dare not cut after hearing of all these horror stories abt bleeding, but tdy, we just decided to try ourselves so bought the nail clipper ($5.80 then discount $4.20 only!). She was so well-behaved during our 1st try clipping tdy. At first, a bit wiggly, but I hold her muzzle and my dad clip and after the first paw, she just relax and easily we clipped off everything. No blood, no mess. Maybe you all can try 2 persons, 1 to hold down, 1 to cut and also cut in an enclosed area so your doggy cannot run. We cut her nails in a playpen area. Anyway, really very happy managed so comfortably to cut her nails ourselves cos' $8 is really very expensive compared to one-time $4.20 (Pet's World, TurfCity). Just sharing...

Anyway, maybe your doggy is not used to being touched at the paws. Try to contact the paws often. We always wash her paws everyday so she's very comfy with us touching her paws. Btw, we went the new Puppy Patrol at Bukit Timah (near Beauty World) just now and its $7 for our largebreed dog. If your small breed, maybe cheaper. Call/visit and enquire...?

do u guys ever noticed some large breeds or small breed dogs never had to have their nails cut?? if u observed....they'll usually brush their paws against the carpet, rug, grass....wat my aunt told mi is that in this way...their nails will be filed juz like wat gals do when they file their nails....
amazingly...my aunt goldie never go to groomer b4 and she only owns a slicker brush as her only grooming tool!

ya lor like mine... dun really need to cut.... just make sure u bring them out for walks frequently esp in parks where the pavement is slightly rougher .... helps to file it all down! but i think not suitable for all breeds...

ya i not too sure abt the last nail... but did hear ppl say if it grows inwards and not cut, u might need an operation .... but not sure how come it have to reach an op when it seems a nail cut would suffice

if u dun cut...the last nail would grow and curl up and sometimes it'll prick into the dogs flesh and grow into the flesh which will need an op to remove

last nail?? erm...dew claw issit?? if you dun keep an eye on that one it can get ingrown...very painful for the dog...coz the dew claw no contact with the ground so very hard to have "natural filing" on it...
here's a trick i tried with my GR pup...on top of handling her paws daily, if i have to clip her claws or the fur between paw pads...
peanut butter...
scoop a serving of peanut butter on a sthingy...the person whose holding onto the dog should then distract the dog with the peanut butter while the other person clips the claws...he'll be so occupied with getting the gooey tasty stuff that he probably won't notice that his claws are being clipped!!
also, if he's afraid of the clipper, try just touching his paws with the clipper until he is desensitized
