it true that dogs should not allow to eat chocolate (for human consumption). BUT for those chocolates (these are sold mostly in the pet shops) meant for dogs' consumption, they are ok for dogs. eat chocolate will die.... read it from somewhere.. dunno abt onions

I feed my Viki both Human and Dog's chocolate b4. I don't think dogs eat human chocolate will die but it is more fattening than dog's chocolate.

it is still not advisable to feed dogs with human's chocolates, it will cost the fur to drop a lot, and it might cause some skin disease... there are some articles published in the web site, you can take a look and read abt it. there is a kind of ingredient in human chocolates dat is toxic to dogs, dat is y it is not advisable to feed our doggies wif human chocolates bcoz they'll slowly get poisoned to death..however, the doggie chocolates r safe for them..hope this helps.

I had done a research on food that are toxic to dogs:
1. Onions, VERY toxic, if consumed in large quantities can caused death, please be careful.
2. Chocolates, toxic, as chocolates same as coffee and tea contains caffein. As such there are risk of feeding them these food.
For good health, if not sure, better dun feed, feed only when you sure.
Everything consume in large quantities is no good, but for some things it is an absolute - "no no" eg. chocolates, onions, coffee and tea...

y chocolates poison dogs:
chocolate contains caffeine which is usually removed by the enzyme cytochrome P450 which is present in the human body
dogs might have this enzyme but the amount they have may be less, hence they are not able to remove the caffeine which will stay in their blood and slowly poison them...
a small amount may not show any effects on dogs but a large amount of chocolate (especially DARK chocolate) contains high amounts of caffeine is fatal to dogs. effects are immediate i would say probably within a few hours since dogs' blood circulation is smaller than humans
some humans (asians and africans) have less of this enzyme hence affected patients might suffer from side effects when they consume coffee, tea, hot chocolate (caffeine containing substances)
